MENTAL HEALTH
Though Rube Foster was known as the Father of Black Baseball and having one of the most if not the most brilliant baseball minds in the history of baseball, he struggled with mental health issues during the latter part of his life. That’s why it is important for the Fosters’ Legacy Foundation to help underserved communities deal with and overcome the challenges of mental health. Our goal is to enhance mental health awareness, early identification, intervention, and treatment services in underserved communities through advocacy efforts, programs and targeted partnerships with similarly focused organizations.
We have partnered with *Redesigning Minds* whose mission is to strengthen the mind while empowering each individual to maximize their potential for optimum success. To learn more about Redesigning Minds, please visit

Youth Mental Health Workshop
On April 10th, the Fosters Legacy Foundation hosted an impactful youth mental health workshop at the PRP company Redesigning Minds LLC facility, a key partner in advancing mental wellness in the community. The event brought together around 20 young participants for an interactive session focused on taking responsibility and managing emotions in healthy, constructive ways.
The workshop was led by Brandon Johnson, CEO of Johnson & Family Foundation, in partnership with clinical therapist Terri Johnson, who guided the youth through practical techniques for emotional regulation and self-awareness. Terri’s expertise added a valuable clinical foundation to the hands-on experience.
Baseball, particularly, batting and boxing were introduced as powerful outlets for emotional expression and stress relief. Thanks to a generous donation from Downtown Locker Room Sporting Goods, each participant received a brand new pair of boxing gloves, enhancing their engagement and leaving them with a meaningful takeaway.
This workshop was a true reflection of collaboration between passionate organizations, offering young people a safe and empowering space to learn, grow, and take control of their emotional health.
