As part of our mission to lift up communities, Foster Legacy Foundation partners with several nonprofits, community groups, schools, and social service agencies to offer public education, outreach activities, and community giving programs to area residents. Here are just a few of the ways we lift up our community:
Though Rube Foster was known as the Father of Black Baseball and having one of the most if not the most brilliant baseball minds in the history of baseball, he struggled with mental health issues during the latter part of his life. That’s why it is important for the Fosters’ Legacy Foundation to help underserved communities deal with and overcome the challenges of mental health. Our goal is to enhance mental health awareness, early identification, intervention, and treatment services in underserved communities through advocacy efforts, programs and targeted partnerships with similarly focused organizations.
Let's Play Ball
Rube and William Foster wanted to improve the lives of African-Americans through the sport of baseball. The Fosters’ Legacy Foundation will work in underserved communities to increase the popularity of the sport of baseball by supporting local youth baseball leagues and organizations with equipment and resources they need to ensure that every child that wants to participate in the sport will have the means to do so. The FLF will also conduct seminars and workshops to educate our youth on the sport of baseball.
Rube and William Foster not only wanted to improve the lives of African-Americans playing the sport of baseball but also wanted to improve the lives of the African-Americans in the communities where the Negro League baseball teams played. The Fosters’ Legacy Foundation will partner with other non-profit organizations to support underserved communities providing the necessary resources and tools to increase the quality of life for individuals living in those communities.
Wholistic Business through Baseball
Rube was not just great at playing the sport of baseball but he was equally great and brilliant at running and managing the business of baseball. The Fosters’ Legacy Foundation is committed to creating programs targeted at creating entrepreneurs within underserved communities. The FLF will sponsor seminars, workshops, etc aimed at educating individuals on what’s needed to succeed as an entrepreneur.
